Maureen was the ideal neighbor and friend. One could always depend on her to be straightforward, honest and caring. And she always looked out for the neighborhood kids and made sure that they were always acting appropriately and showed respect to all.
Maureen epitomized what is totally missing in today’s world.
May she Rest In Peace knowing that she was loved and respected.

My deepest condolences. I remember Mrs. Powell being very funny with the jokes giving Bill and I the business about our road trip long the east coast. As my best friends mom she always had words of encouragement. She will be missed.

Gigi, my sincere condolences to you and your family. I will always remember your family as the first to welcome us to the neighborhood. Your mom always looked out for all of the kids in the neighborhood. I pray for your strength during this difficult time.

Maureen, or as I affectionately called her Mo, was one of my dearest friends. I looked forward to her phone calls and hearing her voice often, and my heart still cannot believe that this will no longer be the case. My grandchildren looked forward to her beautifully written cards and notes, and her thoughtfulness touched each member of my family in the fondest of ways. While I have lost a dear friend, heaven has gained a beautiful angel and I pray that GiGi along with the rest of us will find peace with her passing as soon as God allows.

Gigi, Over the years your mom and dad have often come into my thoughts. I enjoyed knowing them and meeting you and Bill through my work at Nassau BOCES. Your parents support and interest in my work was a source of great encouragement. I have fond memories of them both, and of conversations with your mom after your dad's passing. I am thinking of you and cousin John at this time. I am comforted knowing she is at rest and have some sense of the care that you have given her over the years.

Hi Gigi, there was nothing like the Eddy Road community! I have many fond memories of the 11 or 12 years I spent there before heading off to college. We were family. We looked out for each other. Your mother was an integral part of that special community. I appreciated the tough and tender love that she showed me during those formative years. I will never forget her. She will be missed. My prayers are with you! (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)

Dear Gigi, First, I want to send my condolences for the loss of your mother. Your mom's voice was heard by all, first in an era in which women were seldom heard at public meetings or by legiative offices. She fought for services for the children of Roosevelt and for fairness for the taxpayers. She especially fought for quality education for students having English as their second language. As you know, back in the 60's, I had the pleasure of having both you and Billy in my second grade class. Your mom kept me on my toes, and your dad was supportive throughout the many years he served on the Board of Education. You and Billy were always the delights of her life. She was so proud of you both, and you took such good care of her. In later years, your mom became a very good friend. I will think of her often, and when I do, I will smile. With love, Susan

Mrs. Powell, and the Powell family played a seminal role in my growth and development as a young man and budding engineer. She’d hold me to high standards of customer service after I took over Billy’s Newsday paper route in the neighborhood, even as Billy served as my mentor. May she rest with God!
