Obituary

Raoul C. Mancini, 94, of Garden City, NY, passed away Palm Sunday morning, March 29, 2026, peacefully at home, with his daughter Andrea holding his hand. Raoul was preceded by his parents, Victor and Mildred (Spasiano) Mancini, both immigrants from Italy, his beloved wife, Emanuela (2003), and first-born, David (2016).

Remaining to cherish their memories and love him forever are Raoul’s four additional children, Steven (Carol), of Bluefield, W. Va.; Laura, of Foster, Va.; Joseph (Dorothy), of Venice, Fla.; and Andrea (Tom), of Garden City.

Also, twelve grandchildren: Danielle, Ryan, Michael, Sarah, Gia, Lisa, Christopher, Joseph, Jessica, Robert, Alec, and Christi.

Also, twenty great grandchildren: Emanuela, Joseph, Theresa, Rosario, Victor, Luca, Lia, Giulia, Jolie, Nora, Mila, John David, Franklin, Teddy, Leo, Enzo, Cole, Layla, Braylen, and Baylee Grace.

And, Raoul’s brother Remo (Mary) of Las Vegas.

Raoul was born November 3, 1931, in Plainfield, NJ, and grew up in Flatbush Brooklyn, attended St. Francis of Assisi Parish, and graduated from St. Francis Prep. in Brooklyn, where he ran track and was a running back on the football team.

He met Emanuela when they lived in the same apartment building as teenagers, and they married in 1953, remaining sweethearts for fifty years of marriage.

Raoul served in the Korean War, as an Army medic, returning in 1955, and renting, with Emanuela, a basement apartment on Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn. The following year, they moved into a two-family house his father had built in Elmont, NY, and started their family, with David born in 1956.

Meanwhile, Raoul earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Brooklyn College.

Raoul and his father ran Victor’s Town Tavern, an Italian restaurant and bar around the corner from their home in Elmont, until his dad retired and Raoul became an investment executive, which he remained for over fifty years, starting with Hayden Stone, Inc. and retiring from Morgan Stanley, Inc., entirely at offices in Garden City. He retired as a Senior Vice President at Morgan Stanley.

Emanuela and Raoul moved their family to Valley Stream, NY, purchasing a house there in 1961. Raoul moved to Garden City in 2014.

Raoul’s first passion was his family, to which he dedicated all his love and energies. All of his children prospered, with families of their own. David, Joseph, and Andrea became investment executives, Steven an attorney, and Laura a registered nurse.

Raoul’s work ethic was unsurpassed. Yet, he also found the time to travel extensively, and was recognized by all as the most well-read man we have ever known. He constantly attended Broadway shows and the opera, both in Manhattan and on Long Island. He was fluent in Italian.

Raoul and his family are especially thankful to his loving care givers, Patricia, Ana, Maria, and Joyce.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church in Valley Stream, where Raoul was a parishioner for decades, on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. The family may be contacted for additional details.

We commend Dad, “G-Pa” to his thirty-two grandchildren and great grandchildren, to the comfort of our Blessed Mother and the mercy of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

“Piano piano si va lontano.” A remarkable journey, Dad. Well done!
