Barbara Sandwick Schauf of Rockville Centre, formerly of Garden City, NY, passed peacefully on September 28, 2026, surrounded by family. Barbara was born on December 31, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois. She went on to The College of William and Mary, where she met her beloved husband Robert Warner Schauf. They were married and settled in Garden City, NY, raising nine children.  Devoted mother of Cam (Betsy), Cindy (Michael), Lyn (Tom), Laura (Steve), Kenny (Marilyn), Peter (Betsy), Catherine, Christine (Bob), Robert (Katie) and Mare. Cherished grandmother of 22 and great grandmother of 23. From the very beginning, Barbara was the heart of a household that was full of love, full of opinions, and full of life. The Schauf house was always open to the world, the neighborhood, friends and her ever growing family. Barbara built a household that was warm, loving and forgiving. She knew who was happy, who was sad, who needed a hug, who needed a quick kick and who just needed someone to listen. Barbara was not only there for her family, she was there for countless friends and acquaintances.  In addition to sharing her love and her gifts in all of these informal ways, Barbara was also a nursery school teacher at the Garden City Community Church for 18 years. A tireless child advocate, Barbara had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh.  Barbara’s love and life will be honored at a memorial service at The Garden City Community Church on Friday, October 9, 2026 at 11:00 AM.
