Regina R. (Jean) McGovern (nee Ryan) of Hempstead, NY, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2023. Beloved wife of the late Thomas A. McGovern, Jr. Loving mother of Regina (Thomas Halloran), Thomas III, Kathleen (Thomas Sullivan), and Nancy (John Halloran). Adored grandmother of Caitlin, Lauren, Kevin, Peter, Abigail, Kate and Shannon. Predeceased by her loving parents, Evelyn and John J. Ryan, adored brothers John, Jr. (Jack), Charles, Peter, Joseph and Gerald Ryan, and many dear friends.    

Jean was born in Brooklyn, NY, graduated from St. Agnes Seminary, and attended the College of St. Elizabeth in Morris Township, NJ, where she made many lifelong friends. After marrying and starting a family, she moved to her home in Hempstead, NY, where she lived for almost 59 years. She was a very active member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, a longtime employee of St. John’s University and a devoted leader of many organizations, including the St. Thomas Rosary Society, Sacred Heart Academy’s Mothers’ Club and Hempstead Golf & Country Club’s Ladies’ Bridge. She fully supported all of her children’s and grandchildren’s interests, activities and endeavors over many years.

Jean loved spending time with her family and friends at the beach and Hempstead Golf Club, never turned down an invitation to a party or to play bridge, and will be remembered always as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
