My husband, Tom was taken from us much too abruptly, too suddenly, after only 2 weeks from his cancer diagnosis. I, along with our family and friends, are destroyed and distraught.
Tom retired 7 years ago from his position as Vice-President of finance at New York Power Authority. Tom worked there for over 30 years. From the posts I have received during the past 2 weeks, I know that he was extremely respected and loved by many of his colleagues.
Tom was a brilliant man who never stopped being curious, never tired of learning about everything - history, religion, astronomy, science, economics, politics and so much more. He was truly a Renaissance man - a perpetual student of life.
Tom was a lover of nature…appreciating the beauty of every aspect whether it was something simple like the canopy a row of trees formed he would notice while relaxing in our back yard, gazing at and naming a star formation or watching birds and rabbits with awe and appreciation.
Tom was true philanthropist, donating to over 50 charities regularly throughout his life…always concerned with the welfare of others.
Tom was an avid biker, hiker, walker and runner who competed in numerous races usually finishing in the top percentage.
Tom was my protector, always caring for me during my numerous health issues. For the past 9 years he additionally took on the tremendous responsibility of helping to care for my ailing mother. His love and dedication to her was nothing short of incredulous.
Most of all, Tom was a good and moral and humane man who cared deeply about his family and would do anything for them - he was a loving, dedicated and committed husband, son, son-in-law, brother, uncle and friend….Quite simply Tom is irreplaceable.
