June 21, 1938 – May 16, 2021
Catherine Cosmas, also known as Katerina, 83 peacefully passed away on May 16, 2021 at her home in Garden City, NY. She was lovingly surrounded by several close family members at the time. Catherine was born on June 21, 1938 in her scenic and beautiful mountain village in Kremasti, Greece to Nick Tzakas and Eugenia Legakis, Catherine has six siblings, Sofia, Christos, Kostas, George, Mike, and Dimitri. In 1956 she got married to her beloved husband, George Kosmas, of 31 happy years. In pursue of a better life, Catherine, her husband, and their first child, Helen immigrated to the U.S.A. where they eventually settled in Garden City. Five years after leaving Greece, their son Peter was born. Over the years they ran a successful luncheonette and soon, they were able to enjoy the result of their hard work. Unfortunately, in 1987 Catherine’s husband passed, but she refused to let her spirit for life die with him. Catherine Cosmas will be remembered in our hearts as an energetic, independent, compassionate, and for her “zest for life” values. She always said, “Love and enjoy those in our lives while they are alive and not only when they pass”. Catherine loved to bake and cook for her family members, friends, and neighbors. She was very proud of all her family members and of her Greek culture. She actively volunteered at The Cathedral of Saint Paul in Hempstead, NY. Catherine is survived by her two children Peter Cosmas (wife Soteroula) and Helen Georgiton (husband Tony) and her five grandchildren that adored her, George, Georgios, Joanna, Katerina, and Cris. May she rest in eternal peace, and her memories live in our hearts forever.
