Christa M. Cristo passed away on June 19, 2019. She was born in Germany to Albert and Louise Kroener on May 22, 1941. She and her family survived World War II and later came to the United States in November 1956. Christa was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Dr. Eduardo Cristo; her sister, Karen Bua; and her youngest son, Michael Cristo. Christa is survived by her daughters, Nadja English and Monique Sebastian; and her son, Mark Cristo; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
When Christa came to the United States, she met her husband Edwardo and initially started her family in Queens, NY. She teamed up with her Husband, the Cristo family moved to Garden City, where she settled in and joined the Catholic Church and gave her time and faith to serve our lord. Not only did Christa have 4 children, she worked in the rectory for several years. There she created a lifetime of family memories beginning with her favorite holiday, Thanksgiving. This meant a lot to her and it became the first symbol of her love for her new country. Christa became an American citizen and raised her family to love, respect and be proud to be an American. Over the years Christa was able to provide joyous moments that included summer holidays at the family vacation home in Greenwood Lake, NY for her children, cousins, aunts, uncles, neighbors and close friends. The Cristo family invited a new member to the family, Esperanza Kasparian who helped Christa for many years. Christa treated and loved Esperanza as part of the family from the 1st day.
Christa was a hard working woman - first as a stay at home mother and homemaker and later as a modern working woman. At times she worked with her husband in the medical office, then in the church. Later in life she took a position with a German steel company and worked there for many years, becoming the Manager of Human Resources that led to an eventual relocation to Johns Creek, GA.
Christa worked until she retired at 67. Christa was so funny and used to say that she kept so busy in retirement that she couldn’t figure out how she got it all done when she was working. She was extremely involved with the Catholic Church, her community at the Orchards, and volunteer work. She was a member of the Choir at St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre, NY and a deacon at St. Benedict Church in Johns Creek, GA. When she raised her children, she was always volunteering for activities, such as bake sales, class trips and other fundraising activities. And if that wasn’t enough, she made time for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, driving cross country whenever and wherever she thought she was needed.
As a retired woman, she was very active with her Orchards community as the Secretary on the Board. Christa dearly loved her many new life-long friends, enjoying their company, card games in the club house and using the swimming pool. When away from the Orchards, She volunteered at the local Senior Living Center. She met many people on the road as a delivery person for Meals on Wheels. In her later years she became a pet owner to her first dog, Sandy and later her dog, Candi. Her great love for her pets spurred her to expand her role with Meals on Wheels to meal deliveries for pets.
In 2017, Christa became ill with pancreatic cancer. She fought the good fight, but sadly the disease got the best of her. We will all miss and mourn for her, but she doesn’t want her family and friends to be sad, but rather celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests those so inclined to donate to Meals on Wheels: https://www.ssnorthfulton.org/ways-of-giving
