- June 16, 2026My parents were friends of the Sandlers since before I was born. Much of our childhood was spent at their home, at family gatherings, and together at Point Lookout or the Garden City Pool. They were brilliantly talented people that were deeply curious and interested in all things. Gil could converse eloquently on any topic. He frequently bragged “my wife does the NY Times crossword puzzle – IN INK!!”. Jacquie was an accomplished artist and an exceptional cook. Holiday meals at the Sandler’s were truly special, both for the food and the company. Her love for animals was widely known -- it seemed everyone in the neighborhood knew they could bring a stray to Jacquie and it would be well cared for. Gil and Jacquie were best friends and soulmates. When he was sick, she was by his side, her strength never wavered. Now they are together again, at peace. She was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known and will be greatly missed.Jennifer Edwards
