Whenever I was with or spoke to David, I left with a smile. He was such a down to earth, generous and heartwarming gent. Reflecting on our encounters, he was always smiling, laughing and I remember him as being so polite and respectful. David was as authentic and humble as they come. My first time hanging out with David we had a couple of Old Fashioned's - I will have one tonight and "cheers" to him. My love and dearest condolences to all of David's friends and family, what a truly brilliant person he was and he will be remembered as such.

We felt so fortunate to have known our son in law Dave. He was a wonderful husband and father to our daughter Susan Schoelle Duffy and his precious daughter Charlotte “Charlie Bear” as they called her and couldn’t have been a better brother in law and uncle. In the short time we really got to know him we grew to love him very much. Our hearts are broken for his entire family and the many friends he made in his life. We will miss him very much. I am absolutely heartbroken to lose our David. David was consistently compassionate, kind and a conscientious student, always the first to lend a hand to another. He was quiet in class and a fun loving character in the hallway. My husband and I, as well as the middle school community send our deepest sympathy to David’s family, and sweet daughter.

Dear Susan, Charlie and the Duffy family,

Like anyone that was fortunate enough to get to know Dave, I'm left heartbroken with the news. Words feel hollow but I hope you're taking some solace in how loved he was; quite simply Duff was an exemplary human being. For all of his accomplishments and successes, he was as humble a person you could find. My love and condolences to you Susan, Charlie and all of Dave's family.

In August 2011 Hurricane Irene came up the Coastline of New York City . During this time I was working for the NYPD where a Mandatory 2 day Post with possible Evacuations was looming. I happened to run into Dave while working just before the storm and without asking or any hesitation, Dave gave me his keys to his Downtown Apartment. This is the kind of person Dave truly was.

My Condolences to Susan and The Entire Family.

Our condolences to Susan, Charlie and the Duffy family. Dave was an incredibly kind, caring and generous soul. After randomly crossing paths with Dave years after I last saw him, he was quick to offer to help me in my career and even followed up to reiterate that his offer was sincere. He was truly a great man and he will be missed. So sorry for your loss.

I messaged Dave a month or so ago asking for advice on a matter. Instead of texting back, I received a call less than 15 mins later with thoughtful, creative and smart recommendations over a 30 minute conversation/ catch up about life. This is who David was to me. Someone who was always overly generous with his time and willing to help others. Leonie and I grieve deeply with Susan, Charlie, Nancy, Dave Sr., Adrienne, Paul and the Duffy family. We live in hope that our children will be like Dave and enjoy life to the fullest while making others feel special along the way.

In just a few years, Dave and Susan became close friends to me and my family in Bellport. I feel honored to have been in Dave’s orbit — he was truly the best of the best. So kind, gracious, charismatic... I loved his sense of humor, his smile and expressions. He spoke with confidence and ease and always made everyone around him feel important and special. It’s hard to meet quality friends later in life and I feel so very lucky to have had a friend like Dave. Sending love and strength to all of Dave’s family and loved ones.
