Leo William Laibach, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and proud Navy veteran, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on November 24, 1939, in Franklin Square, New York, Leo built a life rooted in family, hard work, and the simple joys that brightened each day.

At just 14 years old, Leo began working alongside his father and brother, helping to build homes throughout the towns of Freeport and Baldwin, NY. Their craftsmanship, dedication, and strong family bond laid the groundwork for a lifetime of honest and meaningful work.

Leo cherished the everyday comforts that made him who he was: his morning coffee, a few Hershey chocolates, and time spent reading his newspaper. He loved golf, bowling, hunting, peaceful afternoons spent fishing, and cheering on his favorite teams—the Mets, Jets, and UConn basketball.

Above all, Leo treasured his family. To his four grandchildren, he was lovingly known as “Papa,” a name that captured his gentle spirit, warmth, and the special place he held in their lives. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Claire; his two loving daughters, Tracy (David) and Kristine (Adrian); and his cherished grandchildren—Samantha, Kaitlyn, Alexis, and Holden—each carrying forward his kindness, humor, and quiet strength.

Visitation will be held at Fairchild Sons Funeral Home in Garden City on Thursday, December 4th from 4-8pm. Burial will take place on Friday, December 5th at Greenfield Cemetery in Uniondale. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of Leo’s life.

Leo will be deeply missed, but his legacy lives on—in the family who adored him and in the countless moments of kindness and love he shared throughout his lifetime.
