Patricia Ellen Howe, age 79, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Belair Care Center in North Bellmore, NY, from complications from end stage congestive heart failure. She was born on January 10, 1947, in Queens, NY to the late Thomas and Rose Luby. Pat was known for her sharp wit, generous spirit and infectious laugh.
Pat is survived by her daughters Caren and Tricia (and their husbands Jim and Mike, respectively), her son Thomas (and wife Jennifer); and seven grandchildren, John, Tim, Ryan, Ciara, Caitlin, James and Brendan. Pat also had three fur grandbabies, Charlie, Ivy and Gigi.
Pat received her bachelor’s degree from Albertus Magnus College followed by her master’s degree at Hunter College. She taught Latin for over 40 years and served as a guidance counselor. Pat taught at Kellenberg from 1995 until her retirement in 2015. She took a leadership position in many areas of the school and helped shape the Latin School, one of her favorite places to be. From her work as a guidance counselor, sodality moderator, Girl Scouts moderator, and National Junior Honor Society moderator, Pat was truly an integral part of the Kellenberg community. Her interest in her students extended beyond the study of Latin, to concern their all-around academic
and personal growth. When she was not in the classroom, Pat thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family as well as travelling, reading, and gardening.
A wake will be held on May 11, 2026, at Fairchild Sons Funeral Home in Garden City from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. A funeral mass will be held on May 12, 2026, at 10 A.M. at St. Anne’s in Garden City, followed by burial at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury.
Pat's legacy of love, wisdom, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in peace.
