A special request;

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Paul’s in Tommy’s name (or, if you’re up to it, a blood donation at your soonest blood drive) would be much appreciated.

Obituary

On April 26th, 2026, Tommy Scudero passed away peacefully at 67 after a well-fought battle with cancer.

Tommy was born in Brooklyn on March 15th, 1959 to Annie (née Minerva) and Natale Scudero. The family then moved to Elmont, where Tommy spent his childhood and graduated from Valley Stream North High School in 1977. It was during this time that he honed his life-long passion for music, and played drums for his classic rock band, Wheels - he never gave up the instrument, always finding time somewhere to enjoy it, either at his drum set proper or at the wheel of his car while driving.

Tommy began to work for LDI Connect (then called Leslie Supply Company) as a field services technician in 1983, for whom he worked for over 40 years. Very soon after, he married the love-of-his-life, Johanna (née Pangarliotas), in May 1984.

They purchased a house together in East Williston in 1989, where they would raise their family: a son, Johnnie, in 2001, and a daughter, Natalie, in 2003 (as well as many dogs: Alex, Harrison, and most recently Vinnie, for whom, like his children and wife, he cared very deeply). He enjoyed his life with them for many years through his delicious home-cooking, frequent beach bum vacations, and celebrating the many academic and career milestones of his family.

Tommy’s life was one of service to others and immense love for his family. He became a fixture in his community for this, both by using his learned skills as a technician, and with impromptu acts of kindness for his family, friends, neighbors, and even complete strangers. To that end, he was also an avid blood donor, donating dozens of pints of blood to the New York Blood Center over a period of 45+ years.

Tommy will always be remembered for his candor, his humor, his compassion, his boundless optimism, his strength, his determination, and his great pride in his life and in his family’s successes. He is survived by his wife, two children, three siblings, and scores of cousins, relatives, and friends who will miss him terribly (and have already begun to do so).

The wake will take place on Wednesday, April 29th, from 6-9pm and Thursday, April 30th, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Fairchild Sons Funeral Home in Garden City. The funeral will take place on Friday, May 1st, at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Paul in Hempstead at 10am.
