Elizabeth “Betty” Erdos, a devoted woman of faith who spent her life in service to others, passed away peacefully at home on May 2, 2026 at the age of 99.
Born on September 30, 1926, in Brooklyn, New York, Betty dedicated her early life to service as a member of the Sisters of Charity of Halifax. During her time in the convent, she found great joy in teaching elementary school, shaping the lives of countless children with patience and care. In midlife, Betty embraced a new chapter, leaving the convent. She began working at a physician’s office where she would meet her beloved husband, George. Together they built a life in New York City filled with love, adventure, and travel, creating memories across many destinations.
Betty remained deeply committed to her faith and community throughout her life. She was a devoted and active member of the Altar Rosary Society and the American Legion, where her involvement reflected her enduring commitment to service and fellowship. She also volunteered at Winthrop Hospital, where she brought comfort to patients by distributing Holy Communion. She enjoyed time with friends through her bowling and book clubs, always bringing her warmth and quiet humor to those around her.
She will be remembered for her gentle nature, her unwavering generosity, and the many lives she touched through both small acts of kindness and lifelong service.
Betty is survived by her sister, Sally. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, George, her siblings, John and Margaret, and her nephew Denis.
She is lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews, Christopher, Jerry, Joe, Eileen, Alice, Liz, and Missy, along with their spouses, and her many great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom she held dear and who each held a special place in her heart.
Her family finds comfort in knowing she lived a long and meaningful life rooted in faith, love, and service to others.
