Obituary

Ensuring and protecting the safety and wellbeing of the friends of Lucille O’Brien and the O’Brien family is a concern of the O’Briens at this time. This is why they are not having a wake. The O’Brien family will provide a date for a Memorial Mass at a later time to be held at Saint Joseph Church.

O'BRIEN, Lucille V. (nee Green), 97 of Garden City died peacefully of natural causes on Friday, March 13, 2020. Born on April 20, 1922 and raised in the Bronx, NY, Lucille was the only child of the late Richard and Sarah Green and beloved wife of the late Gerard J. O'Brien, Sr. Lucille was a devoted and beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. She was member of Saint Joseph Church in Garden City, NY for over 65 years and President of the Rosary Society. A devout Catholic, her faith guided her life and is a lasting legacy that she passed on to her family. She was beautiful, intelligent, graceful and a woman of integrity. She was a strong woman both physically and in character. An avid sports fan, she was the best coach and cheerleader in life. Loving mother of seven: Lucille Leitz, Gerard Jr. (Carol), Richard, Sallyann Mansfield (Ron), Dr. Stephen, Thomas (Donna), and Marilyn O'Sullivan (David). Devoted grandmother of eighteen: Tara O’Brien, Elizabeth O’Brien, Mary Bommarito (Salvatore), Courtney O’Brien, Kelsey O’Brien, Kerry Ann O’Brien, Brian Mansfield (Kristine), Meghan Maher (Matt), Sean Mansfield (Tyler), Kyle (Alexis), Mariel O’Brien, Conor O’Brien, Liana O’Brien, Mary Beth Kurttila, Patrick O’Brien, Mary Kate O’Sullivan, John O’Sullivan, and Thomas O’Sullivan. Devoted great grandmother of seven: Patrick Mansfield, Grace Mansfield, Reagan Maher, Blake Mansfield, Finn O’Brien, Declan O’Brien, and Landon Kurttila. To protect the health and safety of Lucille's many friends and loved ones in light of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, there will be no viewing. Lucille’s burial beside her husband and parents at St. Charles/Resurrection Cemeteries will follow a Mass of The Resurrection on Saturday, March 21st, 9:30 A.M. at the Church of Saint Joseph, 130 Fifth Street, Garden City, NY 11530. Again, to protect the health and safety of Lucille's many friends and loved ones, the family will provide information about a Memorial Mass to be held at Saint Joseph in Garden City at a future date. The Memorial Mass will be followed by a celebration gathering for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the Marist Missionary Sisters - Region of the Americas, or to Good Shepherd Hospice, part of Catholic Health Services of Long Island.
