In Memory Of
It is with broken yet grateful hearts that we share the passing of Michelle Ann Marooney into eternal life on Thursday, April 28th at the age of 49. Michelle was the strongest and bravest person we knew, having endured the effects of neurofibromatosis for her entire life but living the best life she possibly could. Michelle was born in Mineola, NY on December 18, 1972. She lived in Queens Village and then moved to Garden City with her family in 1976, where she lived her entire life. Michelle was a precocious child who enjoyed laughing, playing and hanging out with her friends. Michelle graduated from Garden City High School in 1991, obtained her Associates Degree from Nassau Community College, and also attended Adelphi University. Over the years she had several jobs, including at Lord & Taylor and the North Shore Animal League, and was a volunteer at Winthrop Hospital. The neurofibromatosis manifested itself when Michelle was in middle school, and so began a long and arduous journey where Michelle endured many major surgeries, epilepsy, cancer, paralysis and a host of other challenges. Through it all, Michelle inspired those around her by her strength, endurance and perseverance. Michelle loved her family, being with people, pets, playing cards and games, trips to Atlantic City, car rides, getting manicures and taking walks into town to get her Dunkin’ Donuts coffee. She had a great sense of humor. One of her many gifts was bringing out the best in people who spent time with her. She was blessed with so many friends and acquaintances over the years who cared for her, and anyone who spent time with her was moved by her. Michelle is survived by her mom Alison, brother Richard and sister-in-law Laura. She was the proud aunt of Regan, Richard, Matthew and Maggie. Michelle is predeceased by her father, Richard Marooney.
