During the early 70s, I attended Iowa State Univ where Ed was teaching AFROTC to all us cadets. Smart, funny, and always open to all points of view, I learned a lot about managing people from Capt Lansdale. He will be missed.

It was a privilege to have worked with Ed for many years and an honor to consider him a friend. He brought his own special light into the world, and my deepest sympathy goes to his family. Happy trails, Lansdale.

I’ve had the honor and privilege of knowing and working with Ed
for nearly 50 years.

During our public affairs careers we served together in the Air Force Secretary’s New York City field office, and after retirement when he picked up our company as a corporate client.

Ed’s talent as a professional communicator was unmatched … in PR terms, he could
think Yiddish and speak British! He had that rare talent to turn the toughest PR crises into manageable elements and masterfully convince senior management how to solve the problems they themselves more than often created.

In Air Force parlance I like to picture an Almighty who lovingly and masterfully guards
and guides each of our flights through life. And if that holds true, Ed’s course has just
been cleared to a much, much higher altitude. The view up there must be incredible … and who deserves it more?

What a remarkable life and beautiful tribute. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Ed and Peter were my mentors and they always seemed inseparable. While their crisis skills were unmatched, what set them apart was their ability to develop deep, personal relationships with our clients who relied on them during their darkest moments. They had a unique ability to find humor (sometimes at our expense!) in every situation.

I recall Ed taking me back to the Pentagon in the early 2000's for a speech he was supposed to give. He insisted I take his spot. As I prepared to shakily address hundreds of public affairs officers, he reminded me that "life is just a movie," which gave me the confidence to get through it.

What I remember most about him was his integrity and his unwavering commitment to always "do the right thing." I'm exceptionally grateful to have been in his shadow. May his memory be a blessing.

Ed was a great mentor to me throughout my career. He was wise, honest, kind and funny. I looked forward every year to his beautiful Christmas card, each year as his family grew. My sincerest condolences to the family. May he rest in peace.

I had the honor of working with Ed in his role as a crisis communication counselor. Ed was special in every way. Calm, confident, competent, and left his ego at the door. He was a mentor, too, with his wisdom and humor in some of the most challenging moments.

Ed (who we affectionately called PDUFA… inside joke) was an amazing PR and issues management leader and an all-around great guy. I learned so much from him early in my career — it shaped the professional I am today.

I was so very sorry to hear about Ed’s passing. He was deeply admired by so many who knew and worked with him. At Fleishman, the Special Situations Team affectionately called him the GMIPR (the Greatest Man in PR) and it was true. Ed was calm under pressure, thoughtful and precise with his words, and brilliant at navigating complex scenarios. But above all, he was a kind, loyal, and reliable leader, mentor, teacher, and human being.
